On November 11 2022, Daniel Harvey ‘D Minor’ one of the Stand Tall ambassadors had an impactful visit to Moruya High School to speak to the students. Daniel shared honestly about his turbulent childhood, and his journey through homelessness, refugees and foster homes. Daniel shared how he found music amid his challenges and how articulating his story into words helped him process hardship. He chose to share his music with the world in hopes to inspire others going through challenges to know that their stories are powerful and there is more in store for their life.
Daniel performed two of his raps for the students at Moruya and then after his presentation, he led a workshop with a small group of students who were interested in music. In this workshop Daniel engaged on a personal level with the students, asking about their own passions. Students were able to ask Daniel more questions about his life and dive deeper into the step-by-step process of where he is today.
After the visit, Daniel and one of the Stand Tall team members spoke to the teachers and the response was beyond grateful. One teacher stated, “We would love you to come back, we need more opportunities like this to come to our school because our students have faced so much and they don’t get the same opportunities in regional areas” Another teacher mentioned how impacted the students who have experienced homelessness or are in the foster care system would have been after hearing Daniels story. Moruya High School wrote in their weekly newsletter “Thank you ‘D Minor’ the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed your time at MHS. D-minor was A-plus” to view this newsletter click here
